Deliberately small.
Deliberately yours.

OwnStack isn't a startup chasing thousands of users. It's a tech partner for a small number of South African shop owners — and that's the point.

The story

OwnStack started with a real shop, not a business plan. A five-store wellness retailer in Gauteng was running on an online platform, card machines, and a river of WhatsApp messages — and losing sales to the gaps in between.

Instead of selling them another app, we built one system around how their shops actually work, gave them a written guarantee that their data is theirs, and stuck around to keep it running. That's the whole model.

What we believe

  • A shop owner's data belongs to the shop owner. Full stop.
  • Software should bend to the shop, not the other way round.
  • One honest monthly fee beats a clever pricing scheme.
  • When something breaks, you should phone a person who knows your name.
  • Small, boring and reliable beats big, flashy and gone-in-two-years.

Why "deliberately small" is good for you

Most software companies need to grow forever. We don't.

You're not user #48,112

With a handful of clients, every one matters. Feature requests don't disappear into a forum — they land in the next update.

We can promise what big platforms can't

"Take your data and leave anytime" would be suicide for a company whose business is holding users hostage. For us, it's just honesty — our business is keeping you happy, not keeping you captive.

We plan in decades, not quarters

Our goal is that the system running your shops in ten years is the same one, well maintained, with your full history intact. You don't have to migrate every time a startup pivots.

The long game

Next few years

More shops like the first one: multi-branch wellness and health retail across South Africa. Every new client makes the system better for all of them, because they share the same problems.

Ten years out

A small portfolio of retailers running their whole business on software they trust, with a written guarantee backing it. That's the ambition. It fits on one line because it's that simple.
